DeafReach is a small charity in the UK supporting deaf and deafblind children and young people in Africa.
We work with trusted local partners who understand their communities and are best placed to create lasting change. Together, we help remove the barriers that stop deaf children and young people from learning, communicating, being included and reaching their potential.
Our work includes specialist and inclusive education, vocational training, community support, deafblind support, and pathways towards employment and independence. We also support families, schools and communities to better understand deafness, challenge stigma and create more inclusive environments.
DeafReach works in long-term partnership with organisations in countries including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. We keep our charity small and practical, so donations can go further and support work that is locally led.
Every gift helps create real opportunities for deaf and deafblind children and young people: the chance to go to school, learn skills, be understood, be included and build a better future.
Our mission is to support deaf and deafblind children and young people in Africa to access education, training, employment and community support.
We work alongside trusted local partners to remove barriers, challenge exclusion and create opportunities for children and young people who are too often left behind.
DeafReach believes every deaf and deafblind child should have the chance to communicate, learn, develop skills, take part in family and community life, and make choices about their own future.
Through practical, locally led projects, we aim to build confidence, independence and lasting inclusion.
At Karurama Inclusive Reference School, after supporting open the school DeafReach also recently helped complete a dormitory for 100 deaf children, enabling children who live too far away to stay and access education.
Our inclusive education project helped enrol 3,589 children with disabilities into mainstream education over the last two years.
DeafReach works closely with 8 deaf and deafblind schools across Burundi, Rwanda and DRC, with wider inclusive education work reaching around 200 schools in Malawi and Uganda.
