We treat eye conditions such as cataracts and tackle debilitating diseases, many of which cause sight loss. To do this, we work with governments and local, national and international partners to carry out eye operations and distribute treatments where they’re needed.
We help to improve health services so they are sustainable and make education more inclusive for children with disabilities. We also advocate for the rights of women, girls and people with disabilities.
We have more than 75 years of experience, and we’re proud to be a leader in our field. Our programmes consistently achieve high performance ratings from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
Sightsavers has a presence in more than 30 countries in Africa and Asia. We work closely with local and national governments, and recruit local volunteers to help us carry out our work within the community.
Since Sightsavers was founded, we’ve carried out 10.2 million cataract operations, we have trained almost 403,001 people with disabilities to help them earn a living, and we have distributed 1.95 billion treatments to prevent debilitating diseases.
Sightsavers envisions a world where no one is blind from avoidable causes and where people with visual impairments and disabilities can participate equally in society. The organisation works across more than 30 countries in Africa and Asia to prevent blindness, fight neglected tropical diseases, and promote disability inclusion. It partners with governments and local organisations to deliver eye health services, distribute treatments, and advocate for inclusive education and employment.
Sightsavers is committed to sustainability, transparency, and high impact programming, with over 9 million cataract operations and 1.85 billion treatments delivered to date. Our mission is rooted in dignity, equality, and the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a healthy, independent life.
